This page defines language competency levels from the point of view of NetLingua. When you create a book, you target one of those levels.

Beginner

Beginner can not really communicate in the language. He/she knows from 0 to 600 words and can only use basic grammar. He/she can say learned sentences and uderstand provided answers. He/she can also cope with very basic social situations like greetings, shopping etc. and knows basic facts on the civilization of people that use the target language.

Beginner-low

A book for this level should introduce about 200 new words in 30 lessons. Subjects for the lessons should be chosen from the most common social situations. The book should familiarize the learner fairly thoroughly with the pronunciation and orthography of the target language. Only most common and useful grammar patterns introduced. Basic introduction to the civilization of the target language should be provided.

Beginner-mid

Book for this level should consist of 30 lessons and introduce about 200 new words. On this level we focus on covering the common grammar patterns. We also cover all the most common situations from everyday life. Social patterns are extensively discussed.

Beginner-high

The book for this level consists of 30 lessons and introduces about 200 new words. The learner should already be familiar with basic grammar, we focus on covering the vocabulary and sentence patterns for everyday life, including less common situations. Extensive civilization information is provided.

Intermediate

Intermediate learner can communicate within the limits of familiar subjects. He/she knows how to ask questions and understand real life answers. He/she knows from 600 to 2000 words and all the grammar used in everyday life. Knows how to behave in all basic social situations.

Intermediate-high

Advanced

Advanced learner can speak freely, even on special subjects. He/she can participate in discussions and use discourse strategies. Knows from 2000 to 5000 words and does not have problems to use complex grammar constructs. Familiar with culture and social patterns of the target language.
